تعتبر المدينة باعتبارها ظاهرةً قديمةَ أعظمَ حدثٌ حضاريٌ شيدته عقلية الإنسان، وهي تُعّبِّرُ عن الوظائف الاجتماعية لساكنيها وتجسيدًا للتحولات الاقتصادية. وتأتي هنا الورقة البحثية لرسمِ صورةٍ لمدينةِ قفط التي تقع جنوب مصر، كما كانت تحت حُكم البيزنطيين، ومدينة قفط مَثَّلَت في بواكيرها جسرًا للتواصل بين مكوناتها، مما ساعد في ازدهار الحركة التجارية والاقتصادية، وكانت قِبْلةً لكثيرٍ من البشر من مختلفِ بقاع العالم، وقد انعكس ذلك في التلاقي والتلاحم في شكل المدينة التي أخذت أيضًا تعيش محن الأعداء، كانت قفطُ كيانًا حيًا من الأحداثِ والتقاليد والأعراف والمشاعر والمواقف، وتطورت في مراحلٍ مختلفةٍ، ظهر ذلك في صورتها السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والدينية والأثرية، كما أنها امتلكت أسباب التطور إلى مدينةٍ تَمْلُكُ الصفات الأساسية للحاضرة، وذلك بمفعول المحيط ومفعول الوظيفة، فقد كانت الوظيفة الرئيسية هي التجارة. وأخيرًا يمكن القول أن مدينة قفط كانت منتوجًا إنسانيًا تحقق فيه الكثير من أسباب الحضارة.
Abstract

Here comes the research paper to draw a picture of the city of Qift, which is located in the south of Egypt, as it was under the rule of the Byzantines, and the city of Qift, which in its early days represented a bridge of communication between its components, which helped in the flourishing of the commercial and economic movement, and was a destination for many people from different parts of the world. This is in the convergence and cohesion in the form of the city, which also began to live the adversities of the enemies, it was only a living entity of events, traditions, customs, feelings and Situations, and developed in different stages, this appeared in its political, economic, social, religious and archaeological form, and it also possessed the reasons for development into a city that possesses the basic characteristics For the present, with the effect of the ocean and the effect of the function, the main function was trade. Finally, it can be said that the city of Qift was a human product in which many causes of civilization were achieved.
